During the past ten years I’ve called three places home. An apartment in Sydney, a house in Canberra and an off-grid block in South Australia. But wait! There’s more! There were also mobile homes in the mix; a campervan, motorhome, caravan and coaster bus. As if that wasn’t enough, in my sustained effort to live rent-free and travel, I’ve done more than 70 housesits nationally and internationally.
Some of that story is shared in the book, Stuff the Status Quo - How to spend less on keeping a roof overhead and more on living a life you love.
The overarching theme of the past decade, for me, was about seeking a new place to call home. Searching for somewhere that community was a way of life, not just a buzz word in a marketing campaign.
After a weekend visit a few months ago, then a month long housesit, a small town in Tasmania felt right.
the best community vibe I’ve found anywhere post-pandemic
big enough to have the essential services
small enough to walk around
brimming with natural beauty
and close enough to an airport and ferry terminal for when I get the urge to travel again 😃
In a couple of weeks I move into a cute cottage with a white picket fence. Yes, the one you see in the photo above. So charming it looks straight out of a storybook. In fact the whole town is delighfully charming.
Yeah, I know . . . the honeymoon stage of a love affair is sooo cliche 😂
After a decade being constantly on the move, I reckon I’ve earned the right to keep my rose coloured glasses on for now.
Home. My own space.
A white picket fence. Garden. Garage. An extremely luxurious bathtub.
And enough rooms to have a dedicated office space for writing, crafting, and watching the neighbours walk by with their dogs.
It’s about time I wrote the rest of the books in my Stuff the Status Quo series. Your input in a soon-to-be-posted poll, will help determine which topic I tackle next. In the meantime, housewarming gifts will be gratefully received at my new address 😍😜
Way To Go Girl! Did you happen to find any romance along the way?
